A worldwide map of places with gluten-free information. It came out of a problem anyone with coeliac disease knows well: away from your own town, reliable information does not exist. There are reviews from three years ago, groups where somebody half remembers, and kitchens that have changed hands since.
The point was never to build one more list of addresses. It was to make visible how far each individual line can be trusted.
How the transparency works
verified entries
Every verified entry carries the source of the information and the date it was checked. If the check is old, you can see that: no score hides how much time has passed.
unconfirmed reports
What comes in from users stays marked as unconfirmed until somebody verifies it. It is not mixed in with verified entries, and it does not become true because several people wrote it.
Why it is free
Because information that concerns someone's health and costs a few euros a month would not reach the people who need it most, and because the moment a venue can pay to appear higher up, the whole transparency argument stops meaning anything. There are no sponsored positions and no account to create in order to use the map.
Where the project stands
It is in public beta: coverage is uneven, it grows where people verify, and some features are still rough. I would rather have an incomplete map you can trust than a full one you cannot.
